What's important to me

I like a calm, predictable day with plenty of notice before anything changes. My art, my headphones and my weekly trip to the local cafe matter to me. I want to feel trusted to do more for myself, and I am proud when I manage something new on my own.

How to communicate with me

Speak to me clearly and give me time to process. Short sentences work best, and I appreciate it when you check I have understood rather than assume. I use a visual timetable and find written reminders helpful. Please be patient if I need a quiet moment.

How to support me

Support me to do things for myself rather than doing them for me. Stay alongside me, be honest and consistent, and respect when I say I have had enough. I respond well to encouragement and to staff who genuinely take an interest in what I am working towards.

Key risk: Going out alone - travel training in progress. Support to practise the college route until confidence is established.

Lucas can become distressed by unexpected changes and sensory overload. Proactive strategies focus on predictability, early warning of change and access to a quiet space. Staff support de-escalation calmly and never restrict Lucas unnecessarily, in line with our Accepting, Congruent and Empathic approach.
